::facts
My name is Petros Efstathopoulos and I was born in Athens, Greece, and lived most of my life there.

In 2002 I moved to Los Angeles where I currently live.
In 2008 I got my PhD in Computer Science from UCLA, under the supervision of professor Eddie Kohler. [for more info see /work]

Right now I am working as a Technical Director at Symantec Research Labs, Culver City, CA.

::education
In July 2001 I graduated from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. I majored in Computer Science (Computer Systems, Software engineering and Telecommunication/Computer Networks) and my thesis was on the "Design and Implementation of a Memory Based Distributed Filesystem for a Cluster of Workstations".

During the academic year 2001-2002 I worked at the Computing Systems Laboratory, NTUA as a systems administrator and graduate researcher (funding member of the Parallel and Distributed Systems Group). More on this in /work.

In 2002 I joined the PhD program of UCLA's Computer Science department. I worked with Eddie Kohler and some other cool people on the Asbestos operating system. On a fine day of 2008 I became Dr Efstathopoulos. Again, see /work for more details.

::leisure
I like to take photos. flickr.
I like to use the pictures I take and make web sites.
I like to travel. (and take pictures of course)
I like computers. Nowdays I spend most of my free time in front of a computer.
I like good bars, good friends and good conversations. But I'm very picky.

Music? Yes please, lots of it. All kinds of it. (Also, see /misc)
Mainly grunge, indie rock, alternative, dark wave & gothic, some mainstream rock and pop stuff. I used to listen to a lot of blues and jazz music. My current playlist includes Interpol, James, Madrugada, Suede, The Killers, Kasabian, Bjork and so many others. Marilyn Manson is always haunting my playlists...

I don't read much, but I enjoy books I can relate to.
Do you like Demian ?
What about the Perfume ?
And what about C.P. Cavafy ?

I have to admit that I really enjoyed the Harry Potter books.
Right now I'm reading Gates of Fire, which is really interesting.
